A dog sits to say please... Ask your dog to sit before serving him dinner, ask your dog to sit before letting him onto the sofa, ask your dog to sit before going out for a walk, ask your dog to sit before patting him, ask your dog to sit whenever he wants something.

	Hold a treat near your dog's nose.
	Say "down" and move the treat down towards the ground bringing the dog into the down position.
	When your dog lies down, praise and reward him with the treat.

Repeat 2-3 times.

Then without any treats in your hand, repeat the same procedures and your dog should lie down when you say "down" and move your hand from his nose to the ground. Praise and reward him when he lies down.

When your dog is lying down, he can't jump onto people. You have better control over him when he's in the down position and you have a calmer dog.
